FORMER FRANKLIN COWBOYS

TROY FLEMING

1990 "BB" Cowboys - Southern Division Champions

FRANKLIN COWBOYS:  Troy played for the Cowboys from 1990-1993 for Coach Henry Hines and Art Hancock.  He was a member of the 1990 "BB" team that went on to win the Southern Division Championship.

HIGH SCHOOL: Troy was three-time first-team All-State and All-Region player who was twice named Division II Class A Mr. Football. He set the Tennessee high school rushing mark for a single season with 3,008 yards and 37 touchdowns as a senior and played an instrumental part in helping Battle Ground Academy record a 34-6 mark during his three-years. For his career, Fleming finished with 9,487 career yard, the second highest total in high school football history. Fleming’s rushing total makes him the second highest all-time national rushing leader.

PRO CAREER: Troy started his NFL career playing for the Tennessee Titans. He possesses a rare blend of speed, strength, and size that makes him a contributor as a runner, a pass catcher and on special teams.

“I want to contribute what I can, if it’s special teams, if it’s playing fullback, or if it’s playing running back,” Fleming said. “I think it helps me a lot being able to play two positions and also special teams".

PERSONAL:  Troy, as well as his parents and family, still live in Franklin

FRED LANE JR

HIGH SCHOOL:  A graduate of Franklin High School, Fred produced three 1,000- yard seasons and was a first-team all-state selection, as well as the District Player of the Year and the AAA Player of the Year his senior season.

PRO CAREER: Fred was signed to the young Carolina Panthers in 1997 as a free agent, originally anticipated to do little more than survive training camp and reside at the anonymous end of the Panthers roster. By the middle of his first season, however, Fred, who voiced the philosophy "Life is like a war: if you have the right ammunition, nobody can stop you" was part of the Panthers starting line up. His performances surprised his coaches, team owners, and statisticians of the NFL, with four 100-yard rush efforts in the 1997 season's final weeks- three coming in the final games of the season. He set a single-game rushing record for the Panthers of 147 yards on November 2nd, 1997 against Oakland. The record remains unchallenged.

PERSONAL: Fred died July 6th 2000 from wounds suffered during a domestic disturbance. His parents, Coach Fred Lane, Sr.and Mary Lane still reside in Franklin.
